Dance Programs

 

We offer a full school-year class culminating in an optional, low-key recital currently scheduled for May 20, 2018. Approximately 25 classes per year; dance schedule and handbook provided at registration. Schedule may be revised based on enrollment. Classes taught or supervised by Kirby Shields, JCC Children’s Dance Director and owner of Higher Movement Dance Studio in Meriden. For more information, call Barbara Zalesch (203) 387-2424 x250.

Creative Dance

 

A pre-ballet and tap class to teach our tiny dancers the basics of each style. In class they will be doing things such as warm-up exercises, musical games, pat- terns across the floor and small dance combinations. Ballet and Tap shoes required, Recital participation optional. Class already in session; fee pro-rated based on start date.

Ballet & Tap 1

 

Designed for our dancers to learn the basic placement of the hip and the line of the leg. We will be working on the positions of the feet and arms through developmental games and exercises and learning many new movements across the floor. Class already in session and currently full; call for availability.

Ballet & Tap 2-3

 

A continuation of our beginning class with an emphasis on strength, balance and flexibility. We will begin working at the barre and will have great fun combining movement patterns to go across the floor. Ages 8-10. Class already in session; fee pro-rated based on start date.

Broadway-Style Tap-Jazz Combo

Kidding Around Yoga

 

Kidding Around Yoga teaches children yoga basics in fun and engaging ways. Instructor Sherri Sosensky works with children of all ages to share the joy of yoga practices. Classes are "bring your own mat." Please let staff know if a mat needs to be supplied.

Ladino Author Sarah Aroeste (Shoreline)

Sunday, Jan. 14 | 2 p.m. | Guilford Free Library

Sarah Aroeste works to preserve Ladino (Judeo-Spanish) culture for a new audience. An international composer and performer and now children’s book author Aroeste has released several Ladino recordings combining traditional Mediterranean Sephardic flavors with her signature contemporary style. She offers her young children's book as a peek into the Sephardic culture and Ladino language.
