Congregation Or Shalom•205 Old Grassy Hill Road, Orange, CT
Guest Speakers:
Ron Meier, Executive Director, Yad Vashem

Pastor Chris Edmonds, Piney Grove Baptist Church, Maryville, TN
Eyewitnesses well remember the day the Nazi commandant of the Stalag IXA Nazi prisoner of war camp ordered all Jewish-American prisoners to step forward and identify themselves. They remember the moment Master Sgt. Edmonds, the highest ranking soldier in the U.S. section of the camp, whispered: "We’re not doing that”.  Instead, Edmonds ordered his men to “stand together with the Jewish soldiers”. When the Nazi commandant turned to Edmonds and bellowed: "These men cannot all be Jews!" Edmonds defiantly retorted: "We are all Jews here.”  The commandant then pointed his pistol at Edmonds’ head, demanding that he order his Jewish soldiers to identify themselves, to which Edmonds responded: “We know who you are; and when we win this war, you'll be tried for war crimes.”  It is estimated that Master Sgt. Roddie Edmonds, through his bravery, saved the lives of approximately 200 Jewish-American soldiers that day!

Last January, on the anniversary of Edmonds’ courageous act, Pastor Chris Edmonds, son of the late Sgt. Roddie Edmonds, received Israel’s “Yad Vashem” award on behalf of his father. President Barack Obama, along with Steven Spielberg, founder of the Shoah Foundation, participated in that event at the Israeli embassy in Washington DC.
Come celebrate the life-saving courage of one who chose to stand up to evil.
Eyewitnesses to Master Sgt. Edmonds’ courageous deeds will be in attendance.

ALL WELCOME!
