The University will hold its 18th annual Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony on Tuesday, April 19, at 3 p.m. It will be broadcast live on YouTube at: https://youtu.be/U0j7UjnVVz8

Thanks to the leadership of Ira Kleinfeld and the hard work and dedication of a University-wide planning committee and volunteers, we will hold an in-person ceremony for the first time in three years. This program has long been one of the University’s most poignant and impactful, and I expect that will again be the case this year.

The Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony, spearheaded by longtime University of New Haven professor Ira Kleinfeld, serves as a memorial to the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and the millions of other victims of Nazism in Europe. These individuals were murdered as part of an unimaginable genocide because of who they were and what they believed in.

This event is an opportunity for us to reflect on the ethical choices we face today. We are fortunate to have as our keynote speaker a Holocaust survivor, Eva Cooper, and we will be presenting a tribute to Raoul Wallenberg, a Swedish diplomat who led one of the most extensive and successful rescue efforts during the Nazi era.
