What is the current immigration crisis and how can we help? How is this affecting peoples’ lives? Temple Beth David in Cheshire will host speakers who will address immigration and how we may help people in need. There will be a question and answer period after their talks.
Speaking will be Mary Elizabeth Smith, representing Junta for Progressive Action. Ms. Smith will review what is happening in the New Haven area regarding immigration, ICE, and how we can act as advocates for undocumented workers in the area. Junta works on issues directly related to immigration, economic advancement, and Refugees, both documented and undocumented.
The second speaker is John Jairo Lugo. Mr. Lugo is representing ULA (Unidad Latina en Accion). ULA was founded in New Haven and led by immigrants since 2002. They use a combination of legal action and direct action to fight deportations, incarcerations, and workers’ rights abuses in the greater New Haven area. Mr. Lugo will give us an eye witness report on what is happening now.
