National Hunger Action Month was created to raise awareness to the issue of hunger and food insecurity. Jewish Family Service of Greater New Haven, Inc. is participating by collecting non-perishable food to help stock its pantry shelves. Currently our shelves are very low and now is your opportunity to be a part of National Hunger Action Month by donating non-perishable items to help feed the many local families in need of food assistance. Currently, the JFS Food Pantry helps more than 600 individuals monthly. In addition, each month the pantry receives more than 25 first time food assistance requests.
Some of the items most needed include:
Cereal, Boxed pasta, Dried beans; Canned meats (chicken, Spam, turkey); Canned Fish (albacore tuna, salmon, chunk white tuna); Hamburger Helper; Rice mixes (Rice-a-Roni, microwave rice pouches); Grains (couscous, quinoa); Canned vegetables all varieties (beets, mushrooms, potatoes – sliced, whole or diced, corn, French style green beans, peas, lima beans); Tea and Coffee (especially Decaf); Soups of all types; and baking mixes.
Please note the Pantry cannot accept opened or expired food items.
