Israel is becoming a divisive issue for American Jews: Many young (and not so young) people are distancing themselves from it. This process damages the connection between American Jews and Israel, compromises the fabric of the American Jewish community, and causes tensions within individual families. It could even threaten the future of the Jewish people.
Why did this happen? What can be done to address it? How can we make Israel a uniting and not dividing issue for American Jews? In a 45-minute presentation, Middle East expert Avi Melamed will answer these questions and propose a new framework for constructive, apolitical, and respectful discussion that will strengthen American Jewry's societal fabric and reaffirm a robust and sustainable connection to Israel. Q&A will follow.
