Israel is becoming a divisive issue for American Jews: Many young (and not so young) people are distancing themselves from it. This process damages the connection between American Jews and Israel, compromises the fabric of the American Jewish community, and causes tensions within individual families. It could even threaten the future of the Jewish people.

Why did this happen? What can be done to address it? How can we make Israel a uniting and not dividing issue for American Jews? In a 45-minute presentation, Middle East expert Avi Melamed will answer these questions and propose a new framework for constructive, apolitical, and respectful discussion that will strengthen American Jewry's societal fabric and reaffirm a robust and sustainable connection to Israel. Q&A will follow.

About the speaker:
Avi Melamed is the founder and CEO of Inside the Middle East: Intelligence Perspectives and an expert on current affairs in the Arab and Muslim World and their impact on Israel and the Middle East. His distinctly nonpartisan curriculum – which he has presented to numerous universities, government entities, communities, and high schools – uses intelligence methodology to examine the Middle East. Fluent in English, Hebrew, and Arabic, Avi is a former senior official with the Israeli government and has held numerous intelligence and counter-terrorism positions throughout the Middle East. His latest book, “Inside the Middle East,” helps readers make sense of regional events as they unfold.
