The Orchard Street Shul is thrilled to present our 2nd Annual pre-High Holidays Concert, featuring the "Bessarabian" Chamber Klezmer quartet, Bivolita.
Bivolița draws its repertoire from the early, European sources of Jewish instrumental wedding music but finds contemporary interpretations that draw on the diverse musical experiences of its members. We use tradition as a springboard to new spontaneous interpretations, and a deep appreciation of Yiddish dance rhythms as the foundation for elaboration and improvisation.
The Orchard Street Shul Sanctuary is a wonderful place to hear live music, with its soaring ceiling and 2nd floor balcony that were typical for synagogues of its era. Built in 1924 and renovated in 2012, this historic synagogue is the last remaining shul from the old Legion Avenue section of New Haven that is still actively in use. With a growing congregation, weekly Shabbat and holiday services, and programming for a wide variety of ages and interests, the Orchard Street Shul is a vibrant place that bridges Jewish New Haven's vibrant past and exciting future.
Tickets are $10 for adults, children under 12 are free. Parking is available in our adjacent lot, in the medical center garage next door, and on-street. We are not yet handicap accessible.
