The JCC of Greater New Haven is excited to present the Beckerman Jewish Film Series April 7-May 18, 2016: a diverse collection of Jewish and Israeli films to be shown in the Greater New Haven area, including Cheshire, Hamden, Woodbridge, Madison, and New Haven. The films selected explore a variety of comedic, dramatic, historical, and modern themes, both classics and new releases. Partnering with the JCC is a host of community organizations across the region: The Jewish Federation’s Shoreline and Women’s Philanthropy departments; Jewish Business League; Yale University (Judaic Studies, Whitney Humanities Center & Slifka Center); Anti-Defamation League, Tower One Tower East; Temple Beth David of Cheshire, Shoreline Hadassah, Best Video Film and Cultural Center (Hamden); and Madison Art Cinemas. The JCC also received $5,000 in grant support from CT Humanities.
The Jewish Federation on the Shoreline will screen three films at the Madison Art Cinemas (MAC). The first is 'Once in a Lifetime' (2014), on Sunday, April 17th (10 a.m.).
This film is a fact-based story of a French teacher who engages her inner city students in Holocaust education. In a mixed ethnic district of Paris the teacher of this class of teenagers enters them in a competition to examine the Holocaust from the point of view of its impact on young people. This emotional journey chronicles the change in the opinions and interactions of this resistant group of adolescents. The film has won 4 Audience Awards for Best Narrative Film. Associate Director of the Anti-Defamation League’s Connecticut Regional Office, Marji Lipshez-Shapiro, will lead a talk-back after the screening.
Tickets for each event will be available at the door, and every screening will feature a door prize giveaway.
