The Greater New Haven JCC Personal Training Team is here to guide people of all ages and abilities on their fitness journeys. Our team of expert trainers specializes in a variety of areas.


Whether you're just starting out or looking to refine your fitness routine, our trainers create personalized plans tailored to your unique goals and needs.

 

Sessions are available in 50-minute or 25-minute formats, ensuring you can fit training into your schedule.


New to Personal Training?

As part of your membership, you are entitled to a FREE Fitness Center Orientation! This 25-minute session provides an introduction to cardio and circuit machines, helping you get started with confidence.

  • Pamela Olszyk

    Wellness Director, MS in Exercise Science w/ a Concentration in Human Performance, Exercise Physiologist, Mobility Specialist, Focus on Corrective Exercise.

    Pam brings over 10 years of experience in fitness industry, including how the body moves while focusing on corrective exercise. Specializes in mobility & corrective techniques. Her passion is helping people feel good & when they explain they have no pain & are moving better puts a big smile on her face!

  • Terri Tully

    Terri joined the JCC team in May 2012 after retiring from AT&T. She is NASM Personal Trainer certified and continues to pursue education in fitness to support her passion and commitment to her clients.

  • Pam Hutchinson

    Pam has worked in fitness since 1987, starting in group exercise and branching out into personal training at the JCC in the 90s while working on an exercise science masters at SCSU. She managed group exercise programs in three area gyms before returning to the JCC in 2010. Pam specializes in TRX, core, balance, BOSU, foam rolling and senior programming.

    Debra has been at the JCC for 20+ years. Attention to clients' individual needs keeps her one of our most in demand trainers. Her aquatics classes maintain the highest attendance in the pool. She specializes in rehabilitation and older adult training, and strives to offer her clients the most current techniques for a healthy life.

  • Steve Freitas

    Certified Personal Trainer & Coach since 2013. Attained Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science (Concentration in Human Performance) from Southern Connecticut State University. Comprehensive work experience in commercial gyms, rehab facilities, collegiate sports, private gyms, and in-home settings. Certifications: NSCA Strength and Conditioning Coach, NSPA Speed and Agility Coach, ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist. Worked with clientele 16-80+. Approach holistically based & backed by science.

  • Erin Gorski

    BFA and MFA in Acting and Classical performance/Alexander Technique A NYC-based professional actor, director, and professor specializing in Advanced Movement techniques for over twenty years, Erin is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Wesleyan University and former Movement Professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance at Montclair State University. She holds a BFA and MFA in Acting and Classical performance and an Alexander Technique Certification from Balance Center Arts in NYC.

    Gene began his personal training career over 20 years ago as a popular trainer in New York Sports Club and B Fitness, NYC. While also building a successful business in the Bronx, he never lost his devotion to fitness and helping others be the best version of themselves. He is dedicated to constantly improving and learning new techniques in strength and mobility work in order to achieve balanced and lasting results.

  • Donna Schmardel

    Donna Schmardel, certified Master Trainer through the International Sports Sciences Association, is a long-time fitness enthusiast and holds certifications as Personal Trainer, Specialist in Senior Fitness, Specialist in Exercise Therapy Coach, Corrective Exercise Specialist, Specialist in Sports Nutrition and Online Coaching.   • Mat Scherer

    NASM Certified Personal Trainer
    Mat Scherer focus is strength and conditioning training for all ages. He is interested in reflexology and a holistic style to creating a strong body. He has an interactive approach to training his clients and will often join in to keep you motivated. His passion for boxing offers next level cardio training for clients.

  • Lisa Aldo

    Stott Pilates Reformer Trainer
    AAAI/ ISMA CPT

    Lisa began her Reformer training soon after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in order to maintain and maximize her mobility. This interest in helping her clients achieve a higher level of movement and balance led her to pursue a certification in personal training. She brings high energy to every training session keeping her clients on track to a healthy lifestyle.

  • Sadaf Bakhtiari

    MS of Herbal Medicine, Certified Pilates Reformer Trainer/Trapeze Table/Cadillac/Tower & Ladder Barrel/and Pilates Mat from Balanced Body. Also TRX Certified, Sadaf has been a Fitness professional since 2011. She is dedicated to furthering her education in order to bring the most current techniques to the JCC Fitness programs. Sadaf combines her experience in Pilates and suspension training with a thorough understanding of strength and conditioning to help her clients achieve their goals.

  • William DeFusco

    Bill’s goal is to work with our mature aging adult community to achieve functional fitness through a systematic and progressive approach to strengthening and conditioning. His experiences as a Physical Therapy Aide in both land and aquatic settings at Gaylord Hospital has also given Bill experience working with patients in a rehab setting. This experience, coupled with his Personal Training certification, has proven to be an effective combination in addressing the needs of our members.

  • Aidan Leonard-Pasley

    Certified Personal Trainer, boxing and kickboxing
    Aidan has a degree in biology from Western Connecticut State University and has had an interest in fitness that started when he was 13. Played five different sports in high school and always had a love for training. Certified personal trainer and boxing and kickboxing trainer. Has done mixed martial arts, boxing, kickboxing, and Brazilian ji jitsu since 2018. Worked as a mitt holder at title boxing and also at Fighting Arts Academy in Milford.

  • Danny Smooke

    NASM Certified Personal Trainer

    A lifelong JCC member, graduated from Yale in 2018 with a B.A. in Art History and Theater Studies, and earned her MFA in Illustration from the University of Hartford in 2024 alongside her NASM CPT certification. She specializes in strength training and fostering a mind-body connection. She is passionate about empowering adolescent girls and women and brings her experience as a former varsity golfer and competitor in the Connecticut Section Junior Golf Tour.
