On Wednesday, May 27th at 7:30pm journalist, news editor and author Mark Lavie presents "Tension and Turmoil in the Middle East: Why the Media Gets Israel, Palestinians, ISIS, and the Arab Spring All Wrong."

American born Mark Lavie is a foreign correspondent living and working in the Middle East since 1972.  Based most of the time in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, he moved to Cairo full time in 2011, in time for the main events of the Arab Spring.   He worked there as an Associated Press correspondent for 15 years.  He has worked as a radio news broadcaster/reporter, print writer/editor and news analyst for National Public Radio (NPR, U.S.), NBC-Mutual Radio (USA), and the CBC Radio (Canada).  He won the Overseas Press Club's Lowell Thomas Award for “Best radio interpretation of foreign affairs” in 1994.

Mark Lavie's 2014 book, 'Broken Spring' draws on his unique first-hand experiences in Cairo during the height and then decline of the Arab Spring.  'Broken Spring' is his close-up view of how the Egyptians lost their struggle for freedom.  After a lifetime as a reporter of news Lavie became the subject, when he accused the AP and other news outlets of hewing to a biased view of the Israeli Arab conflict. Mark's integrity, knowledge and deep, authoritative, made-for-radio voice make his perspective a Hot Topic on the Shoreline.
