The Legacy of a Courageous, Young, Wallingford Congregant Continues to Inspire A week before he passed away in March 2006, after fighting a courageous, 3-month battle with cancer, 19 year-old Ryan Gordon of Wallingford made a last request to his parents - that his unused college funds be given to a number of organizations that meant a great deal to him. His explicit hope was that his donations would inspire others to give as well. His hope will become a reality again on Thursday, June 12th, when Congregation Beth Israel hosts the Ryan C Gordon Memorial Kiddush Cup at the Tradition Golf Club in Wallingford. The tournament was renamed in 2006 in memory of Ryan, who was an active participant of the synagogue and the Kiddush Cup and was the proud winner of the Cupa's 2005 Putting Contest. In keeping with Ryan's legacy, Beth Israel will be donating 50% of the Kiddush Cup's proceeds to Ryan's Circle of Giving (RCG). RCG gives 100% of its donations to the charities Ryan sought to benefit. Since 2006, Beth Israel has donated over $75,750 to RCG's beneficiaries: The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Yale Cancer Center's Thoracic Oncology Research Department, The Ryan Gordon/Hartford Wolf Pack Scholarship Fund at Trinity College and the Ryan Gordon Endowment Fund at Kingswood-Oxford high school.
