Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000, Generous Benefits Package

Overview:
The Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven strives to represent the Jewish community in
key areas of concern; rising anti-Semitism, community security, advocacy for Israel,
diversity, equity, inclusion, social responsibility, and relationship building with community
partners. Jewish education is of central importance to a healthy and vibrant Jewish
community that values life-long learning, enrichment and understanding. It is also a
powerful tool in building a thriving Jewish community.
Position Summary:
Under the leadership of the Chief Executive Officer, the The Jewish Community Relations
Council (JCRC) Director will create and implement a comprehensive plan to expand Jewish
community and government relations, community outreach and engagement efforts. The
JCRC Director will oversee the Jewish Federation’s advocacy, social action, community
relations efforts both within the Jewish community as well as with the broader Greater
New Haven community, oversees the Center for Jewish Life & Learning and holds the DEI
portfolio.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
• Is a key member of the Federation staff team and works collaboratively whenever
possible
• Works in partnership with the JCRC chairperson to identify, recruit and train
a diverse JCRC committee, representative of varying viewpoints and
community demographic groups
• Stewards the JCRC committee in building and carrying forth a robust agenda, including
both legislative and community engagement initiatives
• With the assistance of the marketing department, the JCRC director develops and
maintains an e-communication strategy to inform the Jewish community of
important information pertaining to safety & security, advocacy or other matters of
import
• Provides substantive information to inform the community through the Federation’s
website and
and will ensure that the JCRC webpage and corollary web pages are kept up to date
• Develops and maintains strong relationships with elected officials and their staff
• Develops and maintains strong relationships with interfaith leaders
• Monitors news media to be current and aware of issues and areas of concern
• Represents the Greater New Haven Jewish community at appropriate forums such
as the JCPA, JFACT and other community action bodies
• Provides regular updates of JCRC activities to the JFGNH Board of Directors when
appropriate
• Recommends communal response to potential areas of advocacy
• When requested, assists the Federation’s development efforts
• Plans and leads missions (ie; Washington, DC, Alabama, State Capitol)
• Develop and/or implement outreach activities, campaigns, and strategies to cultivate
community awareness, build relationships and engagement with the Greater New
Haven Jewish community.
• Help create best practices to mobilize local and state partnerships between
communities, organizations, religious groups and schools.
• Identify and build strategic local partnerships
• Monitor and evaluate community outreach initiatives.
• Attends staff meetings.
• Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree in a related area of study or equivalent experience; an
advanced degree is a plus.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience specializing in community outreach
or government relations including the development of strategy through
implementation.
• Strong familiarity with issues relating to antisemitism, Israel, government
affairs, political science, public policy, media and community relations
• Experience working with a variety of different communities building
relationships and understanding
