The Beverly Levy Early Learning Center, located at the JCC of Greater New Haven, is a quality full-time/part-time program for children, from infancy through pre-K, ages 3 months to 5 years old.
We provide a supportive, nurturing environment which promotes the emotional, social, physical and cognitive development of the whole child, while responding to the needs of their families. We believe that a strong and continuous home-school connection is essential to your child’s educational experience. This begins with our youngest children in the baby rooms through pre-K. We are all working together to ensure that your children feel loved and safe in an environment that encourages discovery, social interaction and independence.
All children are unique, with individual rates of growth, and have individual personalities, learning styles and family backgrounds. The curriculum and teachers’ interactions with the children are based on their individual needs. Our small group size and high adult/child ratio makes it possible for us to carry out our philosophical commitment to meet the needs of each individual child.
The environment is set up to be cozy, welcoming, stimulating and challenging. Each classroom has its own arrangement of learning centers, materials, and daily routines that are designed to suit both individual and group needs.
The children are given the freedom to choose to play independently, to interact with a teacher or to integrate into small or large groups. There is time to be active, time to relax, time to explore the outdoors and time to explore indoors. Self-directed activities are always available as are specially planned, theme-based activities.
At the Beverly Levy Early Learning Center, we expose children to the warmth, beauty and richness of our Jewish heritage through age-appropriate activities and cultural observances. Shabbat is celebrated every Friday as a special part of the week. We welcome the coming of Shabbat by lighting candles, drinking grape juice, eating challah, reciting blessings, and singing songs.
We celebrate the cultural traditions associated with the Jewish holidays in ways that are both meaningful and developmentally appropriate throughout the school year.
Exposure to traditional Jewish values is an integral part of our curriculum. These are universal values, such as helping those in need by the giving of tzedakah (charity), being sensitive to the rights and feelings of others, and understanding the beauty of nature and its significance. We endeavour to integrate all of these elements into our programming, while remaining sensitive to the diversity of our individual families.
The Beverly Levy Early Learning Center admits students of any race, color and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school; it does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in the administration of its educational policies, admissions and financial aid. The Beverly Levy Early Learning Center respects the varied cultural and linguistic backgrounds of all our families.
